Annual Summer Retreat (Yarney) 2018

Starting on 28th July 2018, 280 monks of Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery will celebrate the annual Yarney or rainy-season retreat. The Yarney retreat is a tradition dating back to the time of the Buddha, who established the retreat so that his monks could gather for an intensive period of study and meditation every year. In addition, by staying in a single location for the duration of the rainy season, the monks avoided harming the many insects and other small beings that proliferate during the rains. A third benefit of the retreat is that it gives faithful patrons an opportunity to gather the accumulation of merit by sponsoring the monks as they perform pujas, study, and meditate.

This year, Yarney will be held for 45 days from 28th July until 9th of September. They will make a commitment to stay at the monastery, where they will hold daily pujas and engage in study, contemplation, and meditation.

Any person who would like to participate by sponsoring this retreat should contact  +977 9813431384 (Drimey Dawa), +977 9849349452 (Lhakpa Tashi), 9808128565 (Tenzin)

You can sponsor meals or make direct offerings to the Sangha (Sangha Dana).

Number of Sangha for Sangha Dana: 320
